Tracking the evolution of research in waste recycling science (WRS) can be valuable for environmental agencies, as well as for recycling businesses. Maps of science are visual, easily readable representations of the cognitive structure of a branch of science, a particular area of research or the global spectrum of scientific production. Nanobiomedical science in China: a research field on the rise
Medical and health care applications of nanotechnology have increasingly attracted research and innovation attention. Nano-biomedical science (NBMS) is a term we use to define this emerging domain. Continue reading Nanobiomedical science in China: a research field on the rise
The Emergence of a New Technology: A Multi-Perspective Analysis on the Case of Human Papilloma Virus (Hpv) Molecular Diagnostic Tests
Emerging technologies are sources of new industries and sub-sectors as well as they represent important drivers for technological change. Given the central role emerging technologies play, we aim to investigate the phenomenon of emergence in order to reveal its complexity. To this end, by drawing on an institutional-evolutional framework, we use a case study approach that combines a multi-perspective investigation with mixed qualitative-quantitative analyses, i.e. historical analysis, interviews, and advanced bibliometric techniques. Precisely, we investigate the process of emergence for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) molecular diagnostic tests since its conception in the 1980s. Continue reading The Emergence of a New Technology: A Multi-Perspective Analysis on the Case of Human Papilloma Virus (Hpv) Molecular Diagnostic Tests

The RCN (Research Coordination Network) experiment: Can we build new research networks?
The U.S. National Science Foundation Research Coordination Network (RCN) program broke new ground in funding the development of new research communities of practice. This assessment of RCN supports the conclusion that networking activity was increased for a sample set of projects compared to a control group. Journal articles resulting from RCN support score as highly interdisciplinary. Continue reading The RCN (Research Coordination Network) experiment: Can we build new research networks?
Biodiesel Production from Microalgae: A Mapping of Articles and Patents
Global concern about climate change and the declining petroleum reserves has drawn the attention of scientists, policymakers and various other stake holders to look for alternate source of renewable energy, especially liquid transportation fuel. Continue reading Biodiesel Production from Microalgae: A Mapping of Articles and Patents
International collaborative patterns in China’s nanotechnology publications
Nanotechnology research has emerged as a monumental scientific endeavor worldwide. Over the past decade, China’s nanotechnology publication activity has grown exponentially at an annual rate of about 20%. International collaboration plays a major role in this Chinese research advance. This paper explores these nanotechnology collaboration patterns and collaborators’ performance through bibliometric and text mining analyses to draw policy implications for promoting further research.

Identifying innovation risk path for a newly emerging science & technology: Dye-sensitized solar cells
For “Newly Emerging Science & Technologies” (“NESTs”), uncertainty is the major challenge. Technological innovation for NESTs faces many kinds of risks that dramatically affect their development paths. This chapter combines methods of risk utility theory and technology path research and explores a new innovation risk path modeling method for NEST development. Effects of International Collaboration and Knowledge Moderation on China’s Nanotechnology Research Impacts
Recent studies have consistently reported that China is becoming a leading nation in scientific output, notably in the emerging field of nanotechnology. Given the existence of Chinese diaspora and reverse migration, the driver of such growth is presumed to be international collaboration. However, little evidence shows collaboration to be the principal determinant. The purpose of this article is to examine the impact of international collaboration on the research visibility of China nanotechnology.
