Impact of teacher education abroad in international co-authorship: a study of Federal University of São Carlos’s scientifics production indexed in the Web of Science (FULL-TEXT)

Metric studies on internationalization, especially indicators of co-authorship, present challenges regarding the collection, representativeness, and reliability of the data measuring the impacts of international mobility. Aiming to contribute to the understanding of scientific collaboration initiatives, the present research’s objective was to investigate the relationship between outside teacher education, represented by the completion of a doctoral degree and post-doctoral internship, and international collaboration, identified by the international co-authorships in institutional scientific output. The research method was the exploratory case study, and the case unit was the Federal University of São Carlos. The Lattes Platform and the Web of Science were used as sources of information, and the sample analyzed comprised 12,787 scientific articles and 1,915 Lattes resumés. It was found that 1,850 teachers have doctoral or post-doctoral education (96.6%) and, of these, 632 graduated abroad (33.1%). Regarding the scientific output, 3,487 of the 12,787 articles were published in international co-authorship (27.3%). From the scientific output in international co-authorship, indicators on the groups of teachers with and without education abroad were analyzed. Among the indicators developed, 8.43 articles per teacher were identified for the group with education abroad, while in the group without education abroad, 4.26 articles were identified per teacher. The results demonstrate a positive relationship between doctoral or post-doctoral education abroad with international co-authorships, contributing to institutional internationalization.

Fat-free/lean body mass in children with insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis (FULL-TEXT)

The current investigation aimed to examine the differences in fat-free mass /lean body mass according to the presence of insulin sensitivity/insulin resistance/glucose tolerance/metabolic syndrome in children. A systematic search was carried out in Medline/PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO, covering the period from each database’s respective start to 21 June 2021. Two researchers evaluated 7111 studies according to the inclusion criteria: original human studies, written in English or Spanish, evaluating fat-free mass/lean body mass in children and adolescents including both with and without insulin sensitivity/insulin resistance /glucose tolerance and metabolic syndrome and reported the differences between them in terms of fat free mass/lean body mass. The results of the studies were combined with insulin sensitivity, insulin, resistance, glucose tolerance and metabolic syndrome. The standardized mean difference (SMD) in each study was calculated and combined using the random-effects model. Heterogeneity between studies was tested using the index of heterogeneity (I2), leave-one-out sensitivity analyses were performed, and publication bias was assessed using the Egger and Begg tests. Finally, 15 studies which compared groups defined according to different glucose homeostasis criteria or metabolic syndrome out of 103 eligible studies were included in this systematic review and 12 studies in the meta-analysis. Meta-analysis showed lower fat-free mass/lean body mass percentage in participants with insulin resistance/glucose tolerance/metabolic syndrome (SMD -0.47; 95% CI, − 0.62 to − 0.32) while in mass units (kg), higher values were found in the same group (SMD, 1.01; 95% CI, 0.43 to 1.60).

Scientific mapping of stem cells associated with Chagas disease : A bibliometric analysis

The objective is to map the scientific publications of research involving stem cells associated with Chagas disease. We used bibliometric and social network analysis techniques to analyze scientific data collected in the Web of Science. Most of the articles were published in 2014 and 2015. The organizations and authors with the largest number of publications and research collaborations are located in america, specifically in Brazil and the United States, which are responsible for 62% of all publications. FIOCRUZ, UFRJ, and Hospital São Rafael together account for approximately 55% of the studies related to stem cells associated with Chagas disease. Most of the studies focus on developing new strategies for treating Chagas disease using stem cells. This suggests that the research agenda in this area is still under development, highlighting the importance of continuing to pursue existing research avenues and expanding the range of strategies for the treatment of the disease.

Foresight by scenarios – a literature review

The methods used in foresight studies are analysed under the approach of recent scenarios and applications, where new methods are evidenced. Sixty-six documents were analysed through a search equation in Scopus with the help of the software Vantage Point, taking into account criteria such as keywords, countries, methods used and applications; making use of co-occurrence matrices and cluster analysis. Nineteen new methods, techniques and tools were found, amongst which nano-tendencies, data mining, machine learning, genetic algorithms, and serious games stand out. In the same way, the stages for the construction of scenarios were identified and it was found that they do not fit into a single school or foresight approach.

Green scheduling to achieve green manufacturing: Pursuing a research agenda by mapping science (Full-Text)

The strengthening of measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions meant that manufacturing scheduling had to acquire a green approach. The need to reduce energy consumption becomes necessary for companies to achieve sustainable development. Therefore, a new challenge for the scientific community was foreseen, researching new algorithms or knowledge hubs to achieve green scheduling. Green scheduling may be considered one of the principles of green manufacturing, aimed at minimizing environmental damage and energy waste. A review of the literature shows that there are no research works that analyze the scientific development carried out in “green scheduling” through methodologies based on bibliometric analysis, thus the need and the novelty of this research. Based on a dataset formed by 420 scientific documents published from 2006 to 2020 a bibliometric and network analysis is carried out to find the scientific trends, the main relationships according to collaborations and intermediaries, and the research hubs that help to establish the research agenda. The results show that “green scheduling” is a growing research area in the scientific community and in recent years the number of new research topics has experienced considerable growth. This research is developed in Asia, Europe and America, but China stands out as the most productive, collaborative, intermediary, influential and active country at present, through its organizations which are mainly universities, such as Huanzhong University of Science and Technology and Tongji University. However, research development related to green scheduling is carried out in a collaborative environment between institutions located in different countries, allowing countries that are not scientific powerhouses to develop research in the area. The network analysis makes it possible to define the research framework through the clustering of the dataset’s research keywords, highlighting that the main areas of research focus on the development of new methods through algorithms aimed at improving energy efficiency in production environments, in areas of computational development such as cloud computing, and in transportation. The most cited research papers, considered the main drivers of knowledge, are published in high-quality research journals, and are mainly developments in scheduling algorithms for different work environments with a green approach. Research findings can provide the academic community with relevant information about green scheduling to make appropriate decisions and become a research agenda for future research.

Determination of factors driving the genome editing field in the CRISPR era using bibliometrics (full-text)

Over the past two decades, the discovery of CRISPR-Cas immune systems and the repurposing of their effector nucleases as biotechnological tools have revolutionized genome editing. The corresponding work has been captured by 90,000 authors representing 7,600 affiliations in 126 countries, who have published more than 19,000 papers spanning medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology. Here, we use tech mining and an integrated bibliometric and networks framework to investigate the CRISPR literature over three time periods. The analysis identified seminal papers, leading authors, influential journals, and rising applications and topics interconnected through collaborative networks. A core set of foundational topics gave rise to diverging avenues of research and applications, reflecting a bona fide disruptive emerging technology. This analysis illustrates how bibliometrics can identify key factors, decipher rising trends, and untangle emerging applications and technologies that dynamically shape a morphing field, and provides insights into the trajectory of genome editing

Public innovation: what it is and how it happens through i-Labs

The complexity involved in the solution for public issues requires innovation. Despite the importance, there is little research to translate theories into practice. The aim of this paper is to investigate innovation for public issues through public innovation laboratories (i-Labs). To achieve this, a systematic literature review from documents published since 2004 up to 2019 in Web of Science® was carried out. Data mining software Vantage Point® and Vosviewer® and qualitative analysis software MAXQDA® were used to study 275 articles. Results show the need to deepen in the construction of the public innovation theory through the development of longitudinal studies. The study also found that it is possible to generate public innovation by the integration of; in the laboratory: co-creation, collaborative innovation, experimentation, public-private partnership and citizen participation.

Analysis of Current Status and Evolution Trend of E-waste Resources Utilization Based on Literature Measurement (Full-Text Chinese)

As a comprehensive resource, e-waste contains many precious resources. Resource utilization is an important way to solve the problems of resource shortage and environmental pollution. Based on the paper data collected in Web of Science Core Collection, this article analyzes the paper in the field of the e-waste resource utilization from 1994 to 2019. Using the Derwent data analysis tool (Derwent Data Analyzer, DDA) and VOSviewer software, it reveals the research status and evolution trend, major countries, leading research institutions, major co-authors, keywords, and highly cited papers in the field of e-waste resource utilization.

A text mining-based approach for the evaluation of patenting trends on nanomaterials

Technological developments in nanomaterials can be tracked using patent indicators. However, the traditional International Patent Classification indicators cannot be considered conclusive, since nanotechnology is not easily defined as a field of research as well as there are different types of nanomaterials not well delineated into hierarchical codes. Therefore, text mining approaches can be used to enhance patent analysis and provide insightful trends to support research and development, competitive intelligence, and policy making. This study aims at proposing a method to classify nanomaterials into main types and mapping technological developments using an advanced text mining-based method to compile patent indicators. Patent records were provided by Derwent Innovations Index database, which indexes an enhanced bibliographic data of patents filed worldwide. A comparison between the IPC indicators and those developed here by text mining is presented. We concluded that the proposed method provides useful outcomes for decision-making, technological forecasting, and material selection process.

Investigating the active learning research landscape through a bibliometric analysis of an influential meta-analysis on active learning (full-text)

To gain a better understanding of the landscape of active learning research, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of 1671 scholarly sources that cited the influential meta-analysis on active learning conducted by Freeman et al. We investigated eight research questions including yearly publication trends; authorships; country/region affiliations, organizations, and funding entities; Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) subject categories; document types; and publication outlets. Results showed an increasing number of sources from 2014 to 2019, 17% of sources supported by the National Science Foundation, approximately 75% of sources published in journals, the majority of sources published in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) journals, and most of the publication outlets categorized in education- or science-related disciplines in WOSCC. In addition, there were 5 countries/regions and 8 universities that tended to be the most highly represented within sources citing the meta-analysis. These results highlight the impact of a prominent meta-analysis and the widespread reach it has had around the world. Implications for how this study may impact research consumers and producers are discussed.
