A text mining-based approach for the evaluation of patenting trends on nanomaterials

Technological developments in nanomaterials can be tracked using patent indicators. However, the traditional International Patent Classification indicators cannot be considered conclusive, since nanotechnology is not easily defined as a field of research as well as there are different types of nanomaterials not well delineated into hierarchical codes. Therefore, text mining approaches can be used to enhance patent analysis and provide insightful trends to support research and development, competitive intelligence, and policy making. This study aims at proposing a method to classify nanomaterials into main types and mapping technological developments using an advanced text mining-based method to compile patent indicators. Patent records were provided by Derwent Innovations Index database, which indexes an enhanced bibliographic data of patents filed worldwide. A comparison between the IPC indicators and those developed here by text mining is presented. We concluded that the proposed method provides useful outcomes for decision-making, technological forecasting, and material selection process.

Investigating the active learning research landscape through a bibliometric analysis of an influential meta-analysis on active learning (full-text)

To gain a better understanding of the landscape of active learning research, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of 1671 scholarly sources that cited the influential meta-analysis on active learning conducted by Freeman et al. We investigated eight research questions including yearly publication trends; authorships; country/region affiliations, organizations, and funding entities; Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) subject categories; document types; and publication outlets. Results showed an increasing number of sources from 2014 to 2019, 17% of sources supported by the National Science Foundation, approximately 75% of sources published in journals, the majority of sources published in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) journals, and most of the publication outlets categorized in education- or science-related disciplines in WOSCC. In addition, there were 5 countries/regions and 8 universities that tended to be the most highly represented within sources citing the meta-analysis. These results highlight the impact of a prominent meta-analysis and the widespread reach it has had around the world. Implications for how this study may impact research consumers and producers are discussed.

Mapping experience research across disciplines: who, where, when (full-text)

Human experiences have been studied in multiple disciplines, Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) being one of the largest research fields with its user experience (UX) research. Currently, there is little interaction between experience researchers from different disciplines, although cross-disciplinary knowledge sharing has the potential to accelerate the development of UX and other experience research fields to the next level. This article reports a research profiling study of almost 52,000 experience publications over 125 years, showing the breadth of experience research across disciplines. The data analysis reveals the disciplines that study experiences, the prominent authors, institutions and countries in experience research, the most cited works by experience researchers across disciplines, and how UX research is situated on the map of experience research. This descriptive research profiling study is a necessary first step on the journey of mapping the landscape of experience research, guiding researchers towards understanding experience as a multidisciplinary concept, and establishing a more coherent experience research field.

A world panorama of bruxism in children and adolescents with emphasis on associated sleep features: A bibliometric analysis (full-text)

Background and Objectives
To present a world panorama of the published papers on bruxism in children and adolescents, emphasising the characteristics of studies related to the sleep features of these patients.

Methods
Literature searches were conducted in six databases without language or date restrictions. Data on the titles, types of study, main subjects, countries of origin, keywords, years of publication, authors and their network collaborations, journals and sleep studies were extracted and analysed using VantagePoint™ software.

Results
A total of 725 studies met the eligibility criteria. Most included only children (75.31%), with observational design (66.34%), and risk or aetiology (53.93%) as the main subject. Brazil (18.06%) and Brazilian authors (54.84%) had the largest number of studies, with a low amount of network collaboration. The Journal of Oral Rehabilitation published most of the studies (6.2%); publications in this field have grown considerably from 2000 to 2020. Of the studies, 123 (16.96%) included sleep studies; night sweating, restless sleep, sleep talking, mouth breathing, snoring, obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome, sleep-disordered breathing, nightmares, poor sleep quality and duration, and daytime naps were significantly associated with bruxism in most.

Conclusion
Studies on bruxism in children and adolescents have increased in the past 20 years, with most being observational, and risk or aetiology as the main subject. Brazil and the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation have published most in the field. Sleep studies have shown some features associated with bruxism, such as night sweating, restless sleep, somniloquy, snoring, breathing problems, nightmares, daytime naps, and poor sleep quality and duration.

Recent Trends in Sedentary Time: A Systematic Literature Review (full-text)

This paper systematically reviews and synthesizes the relevant literature on sedentary time research. A bibliometric analysis was conducted to evaluate the publications from 2010 to 2020 in the Web of Science (WoS) core collection database. Derwent Data Analyzer software was used for the cleaning, mining, and visualization of the data. Historical trends of the topics, main contributors, leading countries, leading institutions, leading research areas, and journals were explored. A total of 3020 publications were studied. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia are the three most productive countries. The Australian institution Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute led the list of productive institutions, and Ekelund U published the most papers. Sedentary time raised the concerns of scholars from 106 research areas, and public health was the dominant field. Physical activity, accelerometer, children, and obesity were the most frequently used keywords. The findings suggest that sedentary time is rapidly emerging as a global issue that has detrimental effects on public health. The hotspots shifted in the past 10 years, and COVID-19 was the most popular topic of sedentary time research.

Bats as Hosts of Important Unicellular Endoparasites

Some bacteria and protozoan species are important pathogens causing high mortality rates not only in humans, but also in other mammal species including bats. Infectious agents, such as viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and fungi have been reported in the order Chiroptera, but a thorough analysis of zoonotic unicellular pathogens is needed. To address this topic, we conducted an exhaustive search of literature reports on pathogenic bacterial and protozoan infections in bats, in order to summarize the current state of knowledge on these pathogens. From this search, we obtained information on seven protozoan and 12 bacterial species present in 187 bat species, which were retrieved from 169 articles. Despite all the records, bats are only considered reservoirs for two protozoan species. Thus, more studies are needed to consider bats as reservoirs for bacteria. At North American Society for Bat Research (NASBR) symposia, 17 studies have been presented and discussed, but only two focused on pathogens responsible for the principal causes of death in human populations. More worldwide studies are needed to assess the actual role of bats in public health problems and to help develop conservation measures for bat populations that need to be protected.

Organizational culture transformation model: Towards a high performance organization (FULL-TEXT)

The main objective of this research is to design an Organizational Culture Transformation Model (OCTM) prototype, in order to enable a High Performance Organization (HPO).There are three main processes involved in the methodology. Two of them, the definition of the main OCTM work elements as an initial hypothesis based on a work environment approach and the scientific visualization of the key Organizational Culture research hubs through the analysis of the main topics in research publications, flow in parallel. Subsequently, at a certain point, both of these merge in a third process, the OCTM prototype definition. This last process, will deliver the Organizational Culture Transformation Model prototype, which essentially constitutes the main objective of the study. As result of the methodology, an Organizational Culture Transformation Model prototype has been developed. The resulting model will serve as a reference framework for those companies that wish to conduct an in-depth re-structuring of their operations, focusing it on their human capital.

The role of the electrical vehicle in sustainable supply chains: a review (FULL-TEXT)

Environmental concerns, such as global warming and scarcity of natural resources, pressure companies to develop and adopt cleaner technologies and production processes. Besides, the search for sustainable development (as recommended by Agenda 2030 from the United Nations) has made companies rethink their whole supply chain, including transport activities. Besides, governments have been proposing public policies to obtain positive impacts in the economic, social and environmental dimensions. In this context, many studies have pointed out that electric mobility is a sustainable alternative to the transport sector and, in many EU countries, the government has bet on subsidies to attract manufacturers and customers to this market. Therefore, this paper aims to identify the role of electric vehicles (EV) in sustainable supply chains, considering the articles published in the Web of Science (WoS) database. We realize that there is a low quantity of papers dedicated to investigating the EV in this context. Many papers claim to perform sustainable analysis but do not evaluate the triple bottom line’s three dimensions. Nevertheless, we identified that governments had developed policies to incentivize the introduction of electric vehicles in the market.

Leadership in Educational: A Systematic Review (FULL-TEXT)

The aim of this study is to show the extent to which different models of leadership in education are studied, including changes in the trends of research on each model over time, the most prominent scholars working on each model, and the countries in which the articles are based. The analysis of related literature was first conducted using a bibliometric analysis of research and review papers indexed in the Science Database Web between 1980 and 2014. A more in-depth analysis of the selected papers was then carried out using the content analysis method. Results have shown that there has been an increasing interest in educational research leadership models over time. Distributed leadership, educational leadership, teacher leadership and transformational leadership are the most studied leadership models in education research. It was also found that related research increasingly focuses on the impact of leaders on organizational behaviors/conditions and student achievement. As a result, the use of quantitative methodology has increased significantly over the last decade. Possible reasons for such changes, implications and recommendations for future research are also discussed.
